The much-anticipated second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
The first season introduces a diverse group of characters living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the creator commented earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast the new season moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a few fans create a prediction grid about season 2," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
